Jots & Keepsakes
J&K’s travel jottings and digital keepsakes to remember the journey.
Our Travel Hopes
With a lot of help from loved ones, we’ve said see ya later to Colorado. We temporarily packed our lives into backpacks to head to South America for 3 months, and now we’re off to Asia! About two years ago, we were brainstorming the idea of this trip in our living room moments before Jack proposed. It feels extra special to embark together as our first year of marriage comes to a close. We feel incredibly fortunate to have the support and resources needed to take this time to expand our horizons and experience a little bit more of the world. We’re not guaranteed any amount of time on this planet, so now feels like our right time for a mini-retirement.
The intention of this blog is to document our experiences for future us to be able to look back on & also to keep family members and friends that care to follow along in the loop.
Jotting down some thoughts to keep us grounded along the way:
- We’re super lucky to get to do this together. Things will go wrong and there will be some inevitable disappointments, but we’ll always have each other to lean on and make the best of things with.
- The amount of money spent is not directly related to the quality of the experience. Our budget is quite shoe-stringy (with room to splurge when it will add value of course). We don’t want to fall into the trap of doing every tour just for the sake of doing it. We hope some of the most memorable experiences will come from the little moments together, meeting new people, and finding our own way where we can.
- We’ll need to embrace being uncomfortable. There are going to be a lot of growth moments. From embarrassing ourselves practicing Spanish to navigating new places and beyond, there will be no shortage of discomfort to lean into. Hopefully we’ll come out better for it on the other side!
- Life goes on for everyone else. This means we’ll miss people and miss out on moments. This also means that people in our lives won’t necessarily care that we’re traveling, which is very okay and not the point of us doing this!
- We’ll figure it out as we go. At the end of the day, we’re just out here to have fun, learn a lot, and connect with each other and the world around us along the way 🙂
